This Little Known Waterfall In Wyoming Will Enchant You Beyond Words

Discover the best hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest, known for their stunning scenic views and diverse landscapes.

Yellowstone National Park counts numerous waterfalls among its many fascinating attractions. Some are well-known while others don't even have official names.

There is one charming cascade that has a name but doesn't typically land on top 10 lists of waterfalls in the park. Considering its enchanting surroundings and the fact that it's not too difficult to get to Wraith Falls, however, it should definitely be on everyone's itinerary.

Wraith Falls got its name in 1885 when teams from the United States Geological Survey were touring the Yellowstone area.

You'll find the falls in the northern part of the park.

There's not much history behind the name of the 100-foot falls. Many people say that the gentle slope and the shape formed by the water cascading down it makes them think of a ghost, and theorize that is what inspired the name.

There is a well-marked hiking trail that leads up to Wraith Falls.

The path is short - about half a mile one way - and much of it is through beautiful meadowland.

The nice thing about the hike up is that you'll enjoy the scenery along the way, and might even be joined by a surprise hiking buddy.

It's only after you've trekked through the meadow that the trail turns up.

Part of the trail is boardwalk, however, and it is all along a well-worn path, so it's pretty easy for hikers with skills of any level.

Once you reach your destination, you'll see the mesmerizing apparition that inspired the name of the falls and the trail leading up to it over 130 years ago.
