Not Many People Know This Train Takes Passengers Through A Wyoming Bison Ranch
If you're looking for a unique way to experience Wyoming, there's an exceptional ranch tour just outside of Cheyenne waiting for you. Terry Bison Ranch is, as the name suggests, no run-of-the-mill cattle operation. This ranch specializes in raising bison and a few other distinctive mammals. What's more, the ranch features a small fleet of custom-built trains that take passengers on a tour of the grounds, providing them with an up-close and personal look at the herd. It's a memorable experience you'll never forget.
The Terry Bison Ranch is about 12 miles south of Cheyenne on I-25.
It's one of the many places in the Cowboy State where the bison roam.
The Thiel family - owners of the ranch - wanted to provide visitors with a one-of-a-kind way to view their roughly 2,500 head of bison.
They came up with the idea of having a few trains built to carry passengers on an extraordinary ride throughout part of the 27,500 acres that make up the ranch.
Some of the train cars are open for summertime tours...
...and, since the ranch is open year round, some of the cars are enclosed and heated for the comfort of wintertime guests.
There's even a special dining car where passengers get lunch while sight-seeing on the grounds.
Every tour is led by a seasoned ranch hand who can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about bison ranching.
You won't need binoculars to spot the animal life on this excursion. The bison gather along the tracks, ready to greet visitors.
The ranch is home to other animals, too, such as ostriches...
...and camels.
There are llamas, horses, donkeys, and many other common and not-so-common animals at Terry Bison Ranch, too.
The bison know the routine. They're used to the trains and the guests, and they're actually quite friendly.
Of course, that could be because they know many of the visitors bring treats.
It's an unforgettable way to spend a day in Wyoming.

The Terry Bison Ranch also has cabins, bunkhouse rooms, and an RV park so guests can stay and explore the ranch as long as they like.
