The Wyoming Sky Will Light Up With Shooting Stars And A Nearly Full Moon This Week

The Perseids are coming to the skies this week, and this is always the most exciting and reliable Wyoming meteor shower. Plan a trip to the wilderness this week and you'll get to see a striking nearly full moon, followed by a show from the sky.

Wyoming's night sky is always something special, but on the night of August 12th, the heavens will light up with meteors from the annual Perseid shower.

The Persieds come around every August, peaking on one night when the debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet is visible as it falls to Earth.

There's also a nearly-full moon out (with the full moon coming August 15), so you can look to the skies for a few different wonders. While the moon will make some stargazing more difficult, it's a spectacular sight on its own.

If you find a dark enough spot and prepare yourself to stay up late, you can catch the beauty of the full moon, and then a few hours later, the peak of the Perseid meteor shower.

Most of the meteors will be visible after the moon sets around 3 a.m., so this is definitely an adventure for night owls.

Pick out your camp site and hit the road with some caffeine and good company and you might get to see upwards of 50 meteors streak across the wild Wyoming sky.
