The Boldest And Biggest Meteor Shower In Wyoming This Year Will Be On Display In December

Wyoming boasts numerous natural wonders, including waterfalls, rock formations, lakes, and scenic overlooks.

Every year we look forward to the various celestial events taking place in the skies. And this year, we couldn't be more thrilled for the biggest meteor shower in Wyoming arriving in December. Undoubtedly, the lack of light pollution here means we frequently see brighter, bolder, and more magnificent skies than other states. But, this one will be extra-special. The 2022 Geminid meteor shower is expected to be the biggest and boldest of the year, just in time to send us into 2023!

You'll undoubtedly want to be in the right place for celestial viewing from Wednesday, December 14, 2022, through Thursday, December 15, 2022. This is when the Geminid meteor shower will put on a show high above Wyoming.

The meteor shower in Wyoming will appear when the Earth hits what is referred to as "asteroid dust." Taking place every December, the beautiful result is near constant “shooting stars" lighting up the skies.

The shooting stars in a meteor event are typically comets. However, the Geminid shower is formed by the 3200 Phaethon asteroid.

Particles of the asteroid fly through the earth's atmosphere. This causes the incredible appearance of the shooting stars seen in these photos.

The best way to see the show is by being in a dark place. Of course, light pollution can cause a problem, but places like Devils Tower and some of the other darkest spots in the state should provide clear viewing.

The show should reach its peak around 2:00 a.m. So, you might want to consider planning a camping spot in advance to check it out.

Wherever you view it, you're sure to experience one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year!

Neither cold nor rain (well, maybe rain!) can keep us away from checking out this beauty. Where do you plan on watching? Despite there being so many places to watch from, we want to make sure we've got optimal viewing suggestions!

While this meteor shower in Wyoming will cap off the year for us, this picture-perfect place is great for the first hike of the year!
