Hike Less Than A Quarter-Mile To This Spectacular Waterfall In Wyoming
Discover the easy-to-access Five Springs Falls trail in Wyoming, perfect for a serene waterfall experience and wildlife spotting.
If you're looking for an easy to access trail that's off-the-beaten-path in Wyoming, the trek to Five Springs Falls is one you shouldn't overlook. The trail is .4 miles out-and-back, which means it takes less than a quarter-mile of walking to find yourself at the base of a serene waterfall, surrounded by natural beauty.
Five Springs Falls can be reached from the quiet and secluded Five Springs Campground, located in the Bighorn Mountains of Lovell, Wyoming.
This region offers easy access to the Bighorn, Pryor, and Absaroka Ranges of the Rocky Mountains, making it a perfect place to pitch your tent if you're looking for some outdoor adventure.
Along the trail, you'll find panoramic views - although, sometimes, they'll be socked in by fog. This trail is also a great spot for wildlife spotting and wildflower viewing, in season.
The trail back to the waterfall is about a quarter-mile and relatively flat. There is a small elevation gain of around 140 feet on this .4 mile out-and-back trail.
The trail isn't maintained in the off-season, but it's fairly easy to access if you know what you're looking for!
This beautiful and easy-to-access waterfall is the perfect place for a riverfront picnic.
If you're comfortable with backcountry travel and difficult terrain, you can continue past the first cascade and explore a hidden trail behind it. This requires river crossings and can be dangerous in high water, so it is recommended only for experienced adventurers.
As with every trail in Wyoming, be aware of wildlife in the area, and take common sense precautions before heading out.
Check the weather forecast, let someone know where you will be and when you will be back, and be on the lookout for animals like bull moose, elk, bears, and mountain lions that can pose a danger to humans. Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
