You Might Be Surprised to Hear the Predictions About Wyoming’s Mild Upcoming Winter

Winter in Wyoming is often brutal and unforgiving. This year, Mother Nature might just give us a break.

Cue the "back in my day…" stories and brace yourselves, Wyoming. The Farmers' Almanac winter predictions for 2024-2025 are in, and our state is on track for some major chills, thrills, and a winter season that's perfect for cozying up indoors just not all the time, right? We've got powder to chase!

It's no secret that Wyomingites are well acquainted with sub-zero wind chill and piercing winters, but it's always helpful to know what to expect in advance of those first few snowflakes. Fortunately, we've got you covered! Our friends at the Farmers' Almanac predict that this year, we should see a mostly mild winter for once and it depends on which part of Wyoming you're in as to whether it'll be wet or dry.

It's a toss-up between whether Wyoming winters or Wyoming winter residents are tougher, but despite what Grandpa said about winters back in his day being worse, statistics suggest that winters are typically cyclical. After a string of mild-to-moderate winters, a traditional Wyoming winter would feel rather intense, wouldn't it?

The first snowfall of the year is anticipated for late October. A white Christmas is looking likely for most of the state this year, with possible heavy snowfall anticipated all season long. The central and southernmost reaches of the state should be wet and mild, with snow and rain coming mixed. The remaining portions of the state, however, can expect a mild and dry winter, should the Almanac prove accurate.

Snow, sleet, ice, record lows, vicious wind…you name it, we've experienced it. If all the Farmers' Almanac predictions hold up, this year's winter is going to be a more reasonable one. We're so used to our winters sticking around and lingering well into the traditional spring months that perhaps a milder winter this year will be a beneficial thing. After all, a few early wildflowers would be welcome!

And yet, regardless of how it all shakes down this year...Wyoming's winters are still pretty magical, we think.

In the legendary words of Elsa from Pixar's Frozen: "The cold never bothered me anyway!"

Regardless of your tolerance level, as temperatures start to drop and conditions get dicey, we want you to be safe — that means preparing for a Wyoming winter! Stock up on winter gear and emergency essentials now, keep warmth top-of-mind for any outdoor animals, and make sure your vehicle is good to go for winter driving.
