The Enchanting Wyoming Trail That’s Perfect For Everyone
Devil's Tower National Monument offers a short, scenic hike suitable for all ages and abilities.
There's no shortage of gorgeous trails to explore in Wyoming, and there's a trail for hikers of all ages and abilities here in the Cowboy State. If you're looking for a short, sweet, easy hike that's perfect for just about everyone, you'll want to head to Devil's Tower National Monument.
Devil's Tower National Monument is a natural wonder located in northeastern Wyoming. The huge rock formation stands 867 feet tall, and you'll want to explore the Devil's Tower Trail to get close to it.
The trailhead starts at the parking lot near the Visitor Center. The 1.3-mile-long loop trail is paved, but it does start out with a bit of a climb.
You'll make your way through a quiet, ponderosa pine forest. Enjoy the wonderful smells of pine and watch for wildlife here. You might catch sight of squirrels, rabbits, and birds along the way.
You could even spot a deer hiding in the trees.
Devil's Tower is a sacred place for Native Americans, and you may see prayer flags tied to tree branches along the trail. Please be respectful and leave these little tokens alone.
The trail winds its way through the trees and across a boulder field...
...then it takes you right up to the base of the tower.
If you look closely, you'll see rock climbers scaling the sheer, rock walls of the tower. Hundreds of climbers tackle the tower every summer.
The views along the trail are magnificent - make sure you bring your camera along. While this trail can get quite busy on weekend afternoons, it's relatively quiet if you arrive early in the morning on a weekday.
