Spring in Wyoming is always a bit of a wildcard. It can be 70 degrees one day, and snowing the next. The wind and weather, combined with our long frost risk period, can make it hard to grow extraordinary gardens, unless you really know what you're doing. Luckily, you don't have to be an expert landscaper to enjoy seasonal blooms all year long. The Cheyenne Botanic Garden is bursting at the seams with gorgeous flora, both native to Wyoming and imported from around the world.
The Cheyenne Botanic Garden is bright and colorful all year long, and you'll want to take a trip there whenever you're hoping to brighten up your day.
If it's a blustery day, head inside to the Conservatory. You'll find three floors of gorgeous plants, wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and gorgeous garden additions.
Even in the dead of winter, the Conservatory is home to thousands of plants that stay evergreen, or bloom in the comfort of the greenhouse.
From the skywalks, you'll get to experience looking down into a botanic oasis. It's such a relaxing way to get out of the wind!
When the weather breaks, head outside to the gorgeous outdoor gardens that are bursting with color.
Dahlia, foxglove, lavender and more all fill the air with the fragrance of spring or summer! The curators know exactly how to build a gorgeous landscape.
Little ones will love playing and walking around the Paul Smith Children's Village. This kid-friendly garden is truly a work of art.
If you've got a green thumb, you can volunteer to help keep the gardens in tip-top shape. It's a wonderful way to get some fresh air!
Visit the gardens in Lions Park at 710 S Lions Park Dr, Cheyenne, WY 82001. They're open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 12 p.m to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Visit their website here for more information about seasonal exhibits.
If you prefer to track down wildflowers yourself, plan a hiking trip to The Wondrous Lake in Paintbrush Canyon, and you'll spot the most stunning flora and fauna around.
