The Top Secret Beach In Wisconsin That Will Make Your Summer Complete
Wisconsin Point offers a pristine, uncrowded beach experience with clear water and stunning sunsets.
If you zoom way in on the map of Superior, Wisconsin and check out just south of the city, there are two narrow strips of land that jut out into Lake Superior. One of them is in Minnesota and one is in Wisconsin. There's a small break between the two known as the Superior Entry Channel. To the southeast is an area known as Wisconsin Point.
This may be the longest freshwater beach you'll find and honestly, folks who know about this beach are going to be mad I'm telling you about it. But what makes this beach so great is its wild, unspoiled nature. The water is crystal clear and the beaches are pristine. Only go here if you intend to leave it as immaculate as you found it.
One of the best parts about Wisconsin Point is that, frankly, the water doesn't get that warm. If the winds are right and the sun is out, it can actually be rather nice. Hardy Wisconsin folks are definitely more used to the frigid lake temps, meaning the area won't be overpopulated with out-of-state tourists who are too afraid to dip their toes in.
The water here is rather shallow and the beach is gorgeous, making it a perfect spot for kids.
Getting here isn't always the easiest - wear good shoes and prepare to have to go over some slippery rocks.
But minimal work pays off big time at this truly beautiful, uncrowded spot. It's the world’s largest freshwater bay mouth sand bar.
Between the hidden nature of this beach and the yards and yards of shoreline, you'll never feel crowded here. The beach feels like it goes on forever and you'll feel like you won the summer lake jackpot.
There are no amenities, so prepare to carry in everything you need for the day and then be sure to clean up after yourselves and take everything out. But the reward of an unspoiled beach is absolutely worth it.
Don't be surprised to find unusual rocks, petrified wood and sea glass pebbles here. Your kids won't run out of things to see, do and explore.
Unsurprisingly, the sunsets here are breathtaking. Don't be surprised to see small bonfires pop up on the beach as the light wanes. What better way to end your beach day than with S'mores?
This truly is a hidden gem along the Lake Superior shore, one you'd be well-served to take advantage of before the summer ends.
With clear water, tons of shoreline and the feeling of being on your own private island, you really can't beat a trip to Wisconsin Point.
Located off Highway 53 on Moccasin Mike Road at the southeastern edge of the City of Superior.
