The Gorgeous 1.6-Mile Path In Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine That Will Lead You Past A Pine Plantation And Lookout Tower

There's no better place to explore Wisconsin's glacial landscape than the rugged and beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest, and an accessible Wisconsin trail is opening the forest up to more users. The Plantation Path in the Lapham Peak Unit of the forest travels through tall pines and passes near a park lookout spot. It's a beautiful trail in any season and the perfect way to experience a bit of this amazing forest. Here's what's waiting for you on the Plantation Path.

You'll Find Lapham Peak in southern Wisconsin, just south of Delafield and about seven miles west of Waukesha. It's the highest spot in Waukesha County.

Lapham Peak has over 20 miles of hiking trails that wind through the park's rolling hills and wooded areas. The trails are well-marked and range in difficulty from easy to challenging. The Plantation Path is one of the easier trails.

The trail is partially paved, and there's wheelchair-accessible parking. There is one moderately-steep section, so wheelchair users may want to use assistance or avoid the spot.

The trail passes through a pine plantation. Pines tower above the trail, and it's a tranquil spot. You may have some company - Lapham Peak is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and birds of prey.

A short side trail connects the trail to an observation tower. The Lapham Peak tower stands 45 feet above the park and the surrounding area.

At the end of your trail adventure, there are plenty of places to rest. On warmer days you can enjoy one of the park's pleasant picnic areas, or just take in the park's scenic beauty.
