Swim at This Iconic Freshwater Swimming Hole in Wisconsin for the Ultimate Outdoor Fun
Wazee Lake is the deepest lake in Wisconsin and a popular spot for both swimming and SCUBA diving.
During the winter months, many of us long for the hot summer days to go outside and play. While there's so much to see and do throughout Wisconsin in the summer, there are those hot, humid days when we just want to cool off. Pools are nice and all, but I feel that natural pools are even better. Would you like to wade in an iconic freshwater swimming hole in Wisconsin this summer? If you said, "Yes," then Wazee Lake is where you'll need to go.
Located within the 1,300-acre Wazee Lake Recreation Area, which is the largest and newest County Park in Wisconsin. It's also home to 146-acre Wazee Lake, a body of water known as the deepest lake in the state. Its maximum depth is 355 feet, and due to its deep, cool waters and visibility up to 30 feet in some areas and 40 feet in others, Wazee Lake is a popular spot for SCUBA diving. In fact, over 1,000 divers visit this pristine Midwestern lake annually.
For those who don't SCUBA dive, there is, of course, the option to swim. On those hot summer days when you just want to cool off, there's no better place to be than this iconic swimming hole. Another great thing about its deep water is that the temperature remains cooler in the summer than in other bodies of water. Taking a dip here is certainly refreshing.
Within the Wazee Lake Recreation Area, there's a fairly large beach where families can spend the day lounging on the sand or splashing in the water. Take some sand toys and floaties and have some fun in the sun!
If you enjoy boating, only non-motorized boats are allowed out on Wazee Lake. That way, visitors can enjoy the quiet sounds of nature without the sounds of motors. A boat launch is available for your canoe, kayak, or SUP in the park.
There are also hiking trails, a paved bike trail, picnic areas, an accessible fishing pier, and 12 primitive campsites. As you can see, there is much more to do here than swim in the lake! The park is also quite stunning, another great reason to visit.
