When summer arrives we are often overcome by the need to be in or near the water. Fortunately, West Virginia has several beautiful lakes for us to choose from. Let’s take a look at 10 West Virginia lakes that seem magical in the summer.
1. Lake Sherwood
Lake Sherwood in Greenbrier County is a 164 acre reservoir inside the Lake Sherwood Recreational Area. It features a small arch bridge that looks like something straight out of a fairy tale.
2. Cheat Lake
The beautiful Cheat Lake in Monongalia County is a 13-mile long reservoir. The lake has three marinas and is a popular destination for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming throughout the summer.
3. Sleepy Creek Lake
Sleepy Creek Lake in Berkeley County is a 205- acre impoundment of Meadow Branch. Sleepy Creek is nestled snugly between two beautiful mountain ridges.
4. Summit Lake
Words aren’t really necessary to explain how magical this Greenbrier County lake is; this photo does it all for me.
5. Trout Pond
Trout Pond in Hardy County has brought a lot of magical moments to kids with fishing poles. Trout Pond is West Virginia’s only natural lake.
6. North Bend Lake
North Bend Lake is a 305 acre lake in Ritchie County. Its calm waters and beautiful scenery will add a little magic to your summer.
7. Brushy Fork Lake
Brushy Fork is a gorgeous 18 acre lake located in Pendleton County. Watching the sun rise or set over its calm waters is pure magic.
8. Teter Creek Lake
Teter Creek Lake is located in Barbour County. The lake and its surrounding terrain are home to beautiful birds called loons. Many people travel to the lake in hopes of seeing and photographing these beautiful birds.
9. Boley Lake
Boley Lake is an 18-acre impoundment in Fayette County. The lake is located in the beautiful Babcock State Park. The lake and Babcock State Park are one of West Virginia’s most beautiful locations.
10. Wallback Lake
Wallback Lake is a 15-acre impoundment located in Clay County. This beautiful lake is a favorite spot for parents to bring their children to fish. A beautiful lake and the laughter of children…it doesn’t get more magical than that.
