Here's a hidden gem that you don't want to miss as you explore the Mountain State! There are so many beautiful lakes here in West Virginia, but Rock Cliff (or Rockcliff) Lake ranks right up near the top for its pristine, rugged magnificence.

Off the beaten path on the far eastern edge of West Virginia, there's a beautiful mountain lake hiding in the National Forest: Rockcliff Lake.

This stunning body of water is an impoundment lake located in Trout Pond Recreation Area, between Lost City, West Virginia and Woodstock, Virginia.

In addition to beautiful views and interesting topography, Rockcliff (or Rock Cliff) Lake also boasts a pristine, sandy beach area that's perfect for families looking to spend a day in the water!

You can wade in the crystal clear lake, enjoying the soft sand between your toes, while taking in the gorgeous mountains and forests hemming you in on all sides.

In addition to the beach, there are plenty of trails for hiking, a playground, bathrooms with showers, and a campground.

Make sure to take the trail around Rockcliff Lake to enjoy the lush, expansive forest and the beautiful stream that feeds the lake!

Although the beach area is best used in the summer, Trout Pond Recreation Area is beautiful and accessible in any season of the year.

All that to say, this out of the way beach right next to West Virginia's only natural lake is the perfect place to dip your toes in the water while enjoying these beautiful mountain views!
