This West Virginia State Park Will Transport You Back To The Good Old Days

West Virginia has plenty of fascinating history, but sometimes it's hard to visualize what life was like so long ago. Fortunately, there's one state park in Marion county ready to take you back in time... back before television and smartphones, when life was just a little more straightforward. Learn about life in the early days at Pricketts Fort State Park.

The original Pricketts Fort was built in 1774, as a fortified town that could protect up to several hundred people in times of conflict. Although the town was never attacked, it gave the settlers a sense of safety in the town.

The reconstructed fort in the park was built in 1976 by the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation and serves as a living history museum.

You can tour a little town just like the one built by the early settlers.

Within the fort are four blockhouses, fourteen cabins, a meeting house, a gun shop, and a trading post.

Reenactors around the park help to bring history to life.

The park regularly features blacksmith demonstrations...

...spinning and crafting demonstrations...

... and historic toys and games for children.

Upcoming events in September will feature hearth cooking demonstrations.

Guests will be able to see the way food was prepared during the colonial period and take home historical recipes.

Pricketts Fort State Park is especially beautiful in the fall, so check it out while the leaves are changing colors!

Pricketts Fort State Park is located at 88 State Park Rd, Fairmont, West Virginia.
