Itching for a little one-on-one time with nature, far away from the noise of everyday life? That's what makes hiking so absolutely amazing. Whether we set off on a short but picturesque hike or an overnighter, we can embrace the sheer beauty of nature. If you don't have a lot of time but really need a breather, embark on this picture-perfect trail in West Virginia that's perfect for beginners.
Lather on the sunscreen; slip on a sturdy pair of shoes, and grab your water bottle for the short but sweet Lindy Point Overlook Trail, tucked in Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis.
To get to the trailhead, park in the parking area about a mile from the sled run. (Instead of hiking in the winter, you can ski to Lindy Point Overlook.)
Rated an easy hike for visitors of all skill levels, the .08-mile trail will take you to the observation deck of Lindy Point Overlook.
Dogs are also welcome on the trail. Just make sure to clean up any messes your pooch makes.
Along the way, follow the dirt paths lined with lush greenery and blossoming flowers.
However, if you're visiting after a rainfall, be prepared to deal with muddy conditions.
Arrive at the Lindy Point Overlook, where you'll have sensational sweeping views of Blackwater Canyon.
Carve out plenty of time to take photos of the views, which are picture-perfect any time of the day. (You might also want to visit during sunrise or sunset.)
