'Tis the season when West Virginia takes its natural beauty to a whole new level. The explosion of fall colors in West Virginia creates a whole new landscape to be appreciated... while it lasts. There's no shortage of places to take in the display of West Virginia in the fall, but one, in particular, stands out to photographers, nature enthusiasts, and outdoor lovers alike. Glade Creek Falls in West Virginia has earned its spot as one of the most iconic and gorgeous Mountain State locations, especially during autumn.
Glade Creek Falls can be found tucked away in the 4,127-acre Babcock State Park just 20 miles south of the New River Gorge Bridge. The park is well-known for its Glade Creek Grist Mill and the stunning falls that cascade beneath it.
As fall arrives, the foliage around the mill and waterfall display a kaleidoscope of color in the changing leaves. You'll catch the vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds that are symbolic of the season.
As the days pass, the foliage deepens in color to bold oranges and reds. The ever-changing palette means you might want to visit more than once during autumn.
Glade Creek Mill was built in 1976 as a recreation of the former Cooper's Mill that once ground grain along the creek. Created with the combined parts of three mills that once were scattered across the state, Glade Creek Mill grinds cornmeal today as a living legacy to the more than 500 mills that once operated in the Mountain State.
The falls are far from the largest in West Virginia but with their scenic backdrop of the mill and fall foliage, they are certainly one of the most eye-catching. With a drop of 15 feet, the stream-wide waterfall creates a soothing sound to accompany the gorgeous landscape.
Babcock State Park also has more than a dozen scenic hiking trails. After you visit the waterfall, take a walk to immerse yourself in the autumn colors and enjoy the colorful vistas.
For an unforgettable fall foliage outing, make your way to this incredible state park. With its iconic gristmill, exquisite waterfall, and endless scenery, you can't find a more picture-perfect place on the planet.
