Hike This Unique Bridge Trail In West Virginia To See Three States In One Day
West Virginia offers a unique hiking experience with trails leading to historic sites and scenic overlooks, including a trail in Harpers Ferry where you can stand at the convergence of two rivers and three states.
West Virginia is a hiker's paradise - and it's easy to see why! With historic hikes, trails that lead to intrigue at abandoned sites, and adventurous treks that take you to overlooks as close to Heaven as you an get on earth, The Mountain State is seriously at the top of the list for reconnecting with nature.
One such novel hike begins at the end of Shenandoah Street in historic Harpers Ferry. When you get to the end of the street just keep walking toward the place known as The Point.
There's a trail that continues past The Point that leads over the picturesque Potomac River, but before we get to that, let's take a look at the infamous spot known as The Point.
From The Point, you can stand in one spot and see the convergence of two major rivers (the Potomac and the Shenandoah) AND three states.
In this very spot your feet will be planted in West Virginia and to your left, across the river, is Maryland. To your right and only slightly down river is Virginia. Click your heels and feel that magic of standing in the best of the three states! (They don't call it "Best Virginia" for nothing!)
After viewing the picturesque scenery from The Point, take the trail to the left. It leads to a footbridge alongside the railroad trestle crossing the Potomac.
It may look a little ominous on the approach from The Point, but it's actually a very nice bridge trail.
From the bridge, you'll have a clear view of the The Point and the exact spot where the two rivers meet just in front of the location. And if you keep walking...
... you'll end up in Maryland on the other side of the bridge!
Want to visit all three states ON FOOT? There's a four-mile loop trail just waiting for your next adventure. For more information, keep reading here!
