When people talk about the boardwalk, they are usually thinking about boardwalks along the ocean shore. But West Virginia has amazing boardwalks, too! The boardwalks are located in forests, near waterfalls, and over bogs. Take a look at these great places to walk this summer.

1. New River Gorge, Fayette County

This boardwalk near the visitors center leads to an overlook where you can see the gorge and the New River bridge.

2. Bald Knob, Pocahontas County

This boardwalk is a stop on Cass Scenic Railroad, and leads to an incredible overlook.

3. Beartown State Park, Greenbrier County

The boardwalk here winds around beautiful forests and incredible rock formations.

4. Blackwater Falls, Tucker County

This boardwalk leads to the beautiful scenic waterfall.

5. Sandstone Falls, Summers County

The boardwalk here takes visitors close to the falls, and across the river to two islands.

6. Cranberry Glades, Pocahontas County

This boardwalk will take you through a bog with incredible vegetation. The Holocene glacial retreat 12,000 years ago helped to form the Cranberry Glades into what they are today. The unusual plants seen in the bogs descend from seeds scattered from that era, and include several species of carnivorous plants.

7. Cranesville Swamp Preserve, Preston County

This swamp lies in both Maryland and West Virginia, with the boardwalk just over the West Virginia border. It sits in a "frost pocket," allowing growth of plants usually seen much farther north.

8. Stonewall Resort, Lewis County

The resort features a boardwalk with views of Stonewall Jackson Lake.

9. Tuckahoe Lake, Greenbrier County

This shallow lake is a popular spot for fishing.
