The Washington Hike That Leads to the Most Unforgettable Destination

Wallace Falls Trail in Washington offers a strenuous but rewarding hike with stunning waterfall views.

When the weather is warm, it’s the perfect time to explore Washington’s great outdoors, and there’s no better way than to lace up your boots and go for a hike. If you agree, then we have found your next outdoor adventure in Gold Bar, Washington. Here you’ll find the Wallace Falls Trail. Though the trail is a little bit strenuous, it's well worth your effort, especially when you see the gorgeous waterfall at the end.

You'll find the Wallace Falls Trail at Wallace Falls State Park. The park is just two miles northeast of Gold Bar, nestled on the west side of the Cascades. This beautiful trail is just 4.4 miles out and back, so it's perfect for a day trip and picnic.

And while the trail isn't too long, you'll climb more than 1,400 feet during your hike, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. However, rest and recovery come easily as you'll find many places where you'll want to stop and admire the views.

And speaking of views ... the trail offers jaw-dropping scenery. This lush, forested area is full of stunning plants and trees, and the river adds to the anticipation of what's to come. This is a Washington hike where you'll want to take your time and enjoy the area—destinations like this make the Evergreen State so exceptional. And no matter what the weather may be—even in the mist—this slice of nature is simply spectacular.

Wallace Falls is made up of three falls: Upper Wallace Falls, Wallace Falls, and Lower Wallace Falls. The middle falls contains three tiers, with the largest plunging 265 feet. The lower falls is made up of five tiers, with the tallest tier cascading down 212 feet.

There are many places to view the falls along your way, including bridges and viewing platforms. Many people stop at the bottom of the lower falls to enjoy lunch at the picnic area there, but it's well worth your time to continue on to view the middle falls.

The falls aren't suitable for swimming, but you'll definitely want to have your camera handy to capture their majestic beauty. The trail is dog-friendly, so bring your furry friend along, but make sure to leave him on a leash. Also, keep in mind that this is a very popular Washington trail, especially in the summer months. Be respectful of others on the trail and expect a crowd. This isn't a hiking trail where you'll likely find peace and quiet outdoors.
