This Washington Trail Was Named One Of The Best In America

It's no secret that Washington has some of the best hikes in the country, but it's always nice to see a little recognition. Recently, The Outbound released a list of the 25 Best Hikes in America, and we were happy to see that Washington's Gothic Basin Trail made the cut.

Located near Granite Falls in the Snoqualmie National Forest, the Gothic Basin Trail is best for experienced hikers.

There's no doubt about it -- this 9-mile trek is challenging at times.

To start the hike, park at the Barlow Pass trailhead and walk about a mile down a closed road that runs along the Sauk River.

The next half mile will be a breeze, but after that, you'll hit some tough terrain.

Prepare to ascend almost 3.000 feet in elevation in just under 3 miles.

It's a steep climb, but the rewards are so worth it.

At times, you'll feel like you're looking at a foreign landscape.

It's strange to think this trail is less than 75 miles from the city of Seattle.

There's even a beautiful waterfall on the path, which you'll see as you come out of the forest.

Climb up on a granite bluff and spend some time just taking in the views.

It's easy to see why this hike is ranked among the best of the best.

To avoid snow, try this hike in July, August or September.

It's open all year (weather permitting), but it's spectacular in the summertime.
