Mailbox Peak Trail Is A Challenging Hike In Washington That Will Make Your Stomach Drop

Washington's hiking trails are second to none, and going for a gorgeous hike is a great way to remind yourself that you're lucky to call the Evergreen State home. Of course, some trails are more treacherous than others, and if you're a beginner, you should spend some time on some of our easier hikes before you attempt to scale a mountain. But when you're ready for a real challenge, we highly recommend heading straight to Mailbox Peak. This legendary spot is a true bucket list hike.

Mailbox Peak is marked by the signature mailbox at the top of the summit, which signifies the hardest part of the journey being over.

The mountain goals just make it look easy.

The trail is located near North Bend in the Snoqualmie Region.

This is definitely one of the most visually stunning parts of the state, with remarkable views.

The trail is about 10 miles in length, which is twice as long as it used to be – but believe it or not, this new route is easier to navigate.

The original route involved 4,000 feet of climbing in less than three miles, which is just as awful as it sounds.

The new trail, although lengthy, includes fields of wildflowers in the summer as well as the telltale views.

Rest assured, though, that this is still no easy trek. The trail has been called lengthy and unforgiving, and only truly experienced hikers should attempt it.

The relief you feel when you finally reach the summit and see that mailbox is indescribable.

The views really do make it all worth it.

The origins of the mailbox are unknown. It has been stolen a time or two, but it is always promptly replaced.

You'll notice signatures, stickers, and other decor. Inside you'll find letters, poetry, and possibly even snacks. You may be tempted to leave something behind yourself.

If you make this journey, pat yourself on the back, because it's not an easy climb.

However, it's one of Washington's most iconic hikes for a reason. It really is incredible.
