Just because the weather's getting colder doesn't mean that it's time to stow away your hiking boots. Hike the Icicle Gorge Loop Trail in Washington this winter; it's a winter wonderland!
You'll find the Icicle Gorge Trail in the Wenatchee National Forest, near Leavenworth.
From Chatter Creek Campground, proceed on Icicle Road for nearly a mile, then watch for the parking lot with signs for the Icicle Gorge Loop trailhead.
This hike takes you deep into some of Washington's most stunning scenery. It makes a 4.5 mile loop and is easy enough for most hikers.
Dress in layers for the cold weather, and make sure that you have plenty of fresh water with you.
This trail is quite popular during summer months, but during colder months you'll find some peace and solitude as you make your way through the forest.
There's nothing like having the trail to yourself.
You'll cross the river several times along the way.
That water sure looks cold!
The icy waters of this river flow fast and furious, especially in the winter.
There are several overlooks so that you can stop and take in the mesmerizing grandeur of the rapids.
The entire loop takes most hikers between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete. During the winter, leave plenty of time to complete the hike to avoid hiking in the dark.
And, of course, make sure your phone is charged or that you have your camera with you. This winter wonderland is very picturesque!
