Spokane's famous slogan is "Near nature, near perfect." And given its close proximity to so much rugged nature, like Riverside State Park and the Dishman Hills Natural Area, we think the slogan is quite accurate. This beautiful city even has a waterfall flowing right through it... and in just a few weeks, it's going to be incredibly colorful there. Read on to learn all the reasons you have to visit Spokane Falls in Washington in the Fall.
Spokane Falls is the name of the waterfall and dam on the Spokane River, which flows right through town.
This spot was once the site of a large Spokane people village. The natives referred to it as Stluputqu, which means swift water.
Spokane Falls consists of an upper and a lower waterfall.
And for about half the year, the area looks like this...
... but soon, it's going to look like this.
Spokane Falls happens to be a fantastic spot for viewing the area's fall foliage.
The leaves will begin to change around mid-September, peaking in early to mid-fall.
If you're going to visit, early October would be a fantastic time.
You can get an up-close-and-personal look at the rich autumn hues from the Numerica Skyride, also known as the Spokane Gondola.
The gondolas are currently in operation, and extra precautions are being taken for everyone's safety.
You can also take in the views from the Monroe Street Bridge or Kendall Yards.
The deciduous trees turning orange, yellow, and brown is something you won't want to miss.
"Near nature, near perfect" is clearly the ideal slogan for the city of Spokane.
It's a great place to visit in any season, but there's truly something special about an autumn trip.
