This Hike Passing Clara And Marion Lake Is One You’ll Definitely Want To Take This Fall In Washington
Do you think hiking season should end as summer wraps up in Washington? With plenty of places that don't see snow until late autumn or early winter, plus the strange circumstances of the year, we're betting autumn hikes will be especially popular this year. And while the Evergreen State is full of places that show off our seasonal colors, the Clara Lake and Marion Lake is a great choice for those who can't dedicate more than half a day to the pursuit. The fall foliage on the trail is out of this world.
You'll find the Clara Lake and Marion Lake Trail in Central Washington near the city of Wenatchee.
The trail leaves directly from the Mission Ridge Ski area’s parking lot, so it's easy to find.
While the hike is only 3 miles in length, don't be fooled -- it isn't exactly easy to complete.
While the incline is gradual, it's still very noticeable, especially to legs that haven't hiked in awhile.
The trek gains 900 feet in elevation gain, taking you past two stunning (and quiet) lakes.
The trail is definitely family-friendly, although it might be a bit much for young children.
The Clara and Marion Lakes is open
Washington is home to two types of larches, the western and subalpine.
They tend to be found in the drier parts of the state -- much like some Washingtonians, they prefer to avoid excessive rainfall.
If you're hoping to get another hike or two in this season, plan a trip to Clara and Marion Lakes for October.
Just keep an eye on the weather report before you venture out for your exploration, as sometimes the snow falls early in Washington.
