Who doesn't love a good waterfall hike? There are plenty of them to choose from here in Virginia, yet not all can claim to be easy hikes. If you love the idea of trekking to a waterfall but are more interested in the destination than the journey, then we've got the perfect trail for you. Located in the teeny tiny town of Cleveland in southwest Virginia, Tank Hollow Fall Trails leads to a magical waterfall that relatively few have visited.
Tucked away in Russell County of southwestern Virginia is a tiny town by the name of Cleveland. With a population of just over 120, this town is a community marked by the area's breathtaking natural attractions.
One of the main attractions in the area is Tank Hollow Falls, which is located inside the Cleveland Barrens Natural Area Preserve.
The trail that leads to the waterfall is approximately .5 miles in length. Recent renovations to the trail have made it handicap accessible. Depending on rainfall, you might catch glimpses or hear the sound of the rushing water before you arrive at the falls.
When you arrive at the 60-foot waterfall, you’re bound to be impressed by its size and beauty.
Visitors can hike right up to the base of the waterfall to admire the unique rock formations and the patterns of water as they cascade from the creek.
Tank Hollow Falls is actually just one in a series of waterfalls. If you’re curious to explore the area, you can continue hiking along the network of trails in the Cleveland Barrens Preserve. The waterfall spur is only part of a larger 2.5-mile loop.
Considering the trail doesn’t take too long to complete, you’ll have ample time to admire this breathtaking waterfall. There’s something so peaceful about the rushing water and the surrounding preserve that you might be inspired to spend a few hours in this natural oasis.
