Have you ever heard of Luray Caverns? A simple serene hike up a mountain is nice. We all enjoy connecting with nature, breathing in the fresh air, and letting our minds wander for a few hours. But, walking around a unique natural location can have the same effect. It can also stimulate your mind and help you to understand the wonders of Mother Earth even more. That's why if you find yourself in Virginia, we recommend visiting Luray Caverns.
Luray Caverns is located in Luray, Virginia. It is a short trail of only 0.4 miles and runs in a loop.
It is great for all skill levels, even children, and because of that, it remains heavily trafficked all year round. Keep this in mind when you are visiting Luray Caverns.
These caverns in Virginia are one of the largest in the eastern United States. The caverns were formed more than four million centuries ago and are filled with stunning natural rock formations.
The caverns are also home to a body of water and although it is beautiful and sparkling, it only reaches 20 inches at its deepest point. But that sure doesn't make it any less worthy of taking some great Luray Caverns pictures.
And don't forget to throw some change in and make a wish.
Of course, I can't tell you mine, but be sure to make it a good one!
Translucent calcite falls from the ceilings of the cave creating a mystical effect for viewers to behold.
I couldn't get enough of all of the uniquely carved passageways that led you throughout.
What's really cool here is that, unlike many other cave tours, you can do this one on your own.
So feel free to stop and take as many Luray Cavern pictures as you want, like I did!
All of the formations in Luray Caverns are calcite, which is a crystalline form of limestone. In its most pure form, calcite is snow-white.
Believe it or not, Luray Caverns is also home to the largest musical instrument on the planet.
Be sure to stay and listen to the Great Stalacpipe Organ.
The Luray Caverns pictures do not do it justice. You must see this cave for yourself!
If the caverns aren't enticing enough, there are also other attractions attached to it such as the Car and Carriage Cavern Museum, the Toy Town Junction, and the Shenandoah Heritage Village, all of which can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Learn more at the website for Luray Caverns.
