The best time to see this is between September and February. These lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are a natural phenomenon which is created at random due to particles colliding into each other, and only seen if the conditions are right.

And who would have thought they could be seen from Malletts Bay in Colchester?

We have a wonderful video showing photos of those beautiful lights dancing through the sky by Dan Russell taken right here in Vermont.

The series of photos in the following video was taken at Malletts Bay on Lake Champlain Tuesday, October 8th, 2013.

He lucked out as the sky was crystal clear that night.

As he sat on the beach, the aurora first started out as a green glow.

He snapped photos as it progressed until it suddenly shot into the sky above.
