The Marvelous 2.6-Mile Trail in Vermont Leads Adventurers to a Covered Bridge

Ottauquechee Trail in Quechee, one of the best hikes in Vermont, boasts diverse landscapes, a waterfall, and a scenic covered bridge.

If you're looking for an outdoor adventure the whole family will enjoy, head to the Ottauquechee Trail in Quechee, Vermont. This out-and-back trail, one of the best hikes in Vermont, tallies 2.8 miles and will lead you past different landscapes, including a river, forest, field, and waterfall. Along with the views on the path, part of the adventure is the scenery and covered bridge at Quechee Falls, waiting for you at the end of the trail. If you love exploring covered bridges in Vermont, this hike is a must.

To get started on your outing along this marvelous trail in Vermont, take 1-91 North if you're coming from Brattleboro. You'll need to hop on I-87 South if you're driving from Burlington. The Ottauquechee Trail is an easy hike that everyone in the family can enjoy any time of year. You can even bring your (leashed) pup along, so it's truly an adventure for the entire family. Even better, it won't take all day. It's considered one of the most approachable trails in Vermont, and it usually takes around an hour or less to complete.

Pick up the trailhead at the Quechee Polo Field. The path then leads to the side of the road, where you'll walk for about 200 yards. (Take care when walking by the road as traffic can get busy.)

You will then pick up the trail along the river that will take you to Quechee Falls and the covered bridge. Take your time, if you can, so you can soak up the natural and manmade beauty of the predominantly paved trail.

Remember that, depending on the weather, parts of the trail can get muddy, so prepare accordingly. Wear sturdy shoes you don't mind getting muddy or wet, and consider using hiking poles for extra support. If hiking during the warmer months, be prepared to deal with bugs. Bring plenty of bug spray.

Aside from the lovely views at every step, admiring the covered bridge at Quechee Falls is one of the highlights of this scenic hike. Built in 1970, the 70-foot covered bridge features two driving lanes and a pedestrian walkway, so you can either drive or stroll through.

Be prepared to have your camera on hand to take shots of the waterfall, too. One of my favorite subjects, when I'm practicing my photography, is waterfalls, and the ones on this pretty path are simply breathtaking. Have you hiked the Ottauquechee Trail in Vermont? If not, add it to your Vermont bucket list.
