Vermont may be the only land-locked state in New England but that doesn't mean you have to leave the Green Mountain State to enjoy a great beach day. Lake Dunmore offers a sandy shore, clear water, and glorious mountain views. With the added bonus of nearby hiking trails, you can also go chasing after one of the state's most stunning waterfalls.
The 985-acre Lake Dunmore is over three miles long and spans up to one mile wide. The freshwater lake is a natural treasure in Addison County.
While much of the shoreline is privately owned, the public can enjoy the 1000-foot natural sandy beach at Branbury State Park. The park also has a large grassy area, playground, and concession stand that make it popular for families.
The lake is the perfect summer spot for a swim or to explore by boat. Rent a canoe, kayak, rowboat, or pedal boat for added fun.
Nearby hiking trails make your time at Lake Dunmore an even more exciting adventure. Explore the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area for an added bonus.
You can find trails that lead to interesting rock formations and caves. Or choose a hike that takes you up to an expansive vista.
But if you're a waterfall chaser, you won't want to miss the opportunity to check out the nearby Falls of Lana.
The falls are a breathtaking combination of horsetails and cascades that drop over 100 feet across the rocks. The water twists and turns over each rock formation making this one of Vermont's most unique waterfalls.
The cascades plunge into crystal clear but cold pools. Spend some time exploring this natural oasis and you'll discover many opportunities to capture some incredible photos.
You don't have to limit your waterfall and beach experience to just one day. Branbury State Park has campsites where you can extend your stay overnight. Summer isn't here yet, but you can certainly start making plans now to enjoy Lake Dunmore.
