The Green Mountain State is every hiking enthusiast's dream come true. But the variety of trails to choose from is sometimes overwhelming. Today's recommendation is Hamilton Falls Trail in Vermont, which leads to one of the most awe-inspiring spots in the state. Hamilton Falls is a spectacular tiered waterfall with a jaw-dropping 125-foot drop.
Hamilton Falls is a treasured natural gem tucked away in Jamaica State Park. An out-and-back trail will take you straight to this water wonder. While the falls may be the big payoff at the end of your adventure, remember, getting there is half the fun.
Let's take a look at a few Hamilton Falls Trail photos so you can see what to expect.
You'll follow the West River Trail for two miles and then turn off onto the Hamilton Falls Trail for the last mile of your trek. The first section of your journey is an easy stroll along wide flat terrain. The trail meanders along the tree-lined bed of the former West River Railroad.
You won't be hiking the trail alone. The beautiful babbling West River will be your trailside companion for most of the hike.
After two miles, take the blue-blazed Hamilton Falls Trail. The route used to be a wagon and truck road utilized to carry cargo down to the railroad. The Hamilton Falls Trail difficulty increases for this part of your adventure with an uphill climb, but it's worth it!
When you arrive at the base of the falls, you'll be enchanted by the cascading waterfall that tumbles over three tiers. The impressive 125-foot drop of Hamilton Falls in Vermont creates a magical display.
The natural rock formations are almost otherworldly in their shape. The base of the falls is magnificent, but you'll also want to take the short 1/10-mile trail to the top to check out the view.
On summer days, you might be tempted to swim at the falls. This area has been the site of many deadly water-related accidents, so if you need to cool off, wade downstream below the falls where it's safe.
