I love the Green Mountain State! Vermont is famous for its majestic mountains, and most people ascend them to soak in the breathtaking views. However, there is one place here where the mountain trail leads to someplace much different.... Everett Cave. With a fascinating, otherworldly vibe, Everett Cave in Vermont is without a doubt one of the most beautiful caves in Vermont. Lace up your hiking boots, adventurers, this is one underground cavern you're going to want to check out.
Editor's Note: Always be mindful of the caves and the delicate eco-systems within. Make sure you do not disturb the wildlife. Be aware that not all caves can be entered and you should check with local government agencies first before exploring.
Located along the side of Mt. Anthony on the former Southern Vermont College campus in Bennington is a little-known cave that you can explore. The college itself has an extensive trail network on their 400-acre campus.
The Cave Trail climbs Mt. Anthony and leads to one of the most magnificent caves in the Vermont, Everett Cave. The marble solution cave was carved into the side of the mountain by acidic water eating away at the stone.
Find the cave at the base of a towering rock formation. While in Everett Cave photos, it looks like a mere crack in the rock, it is actually much larger than it seems.
You can easily stand up inside Everett Cave in Vermont. This isn't a tiny crevice where you have to squeeze and crawl. Just walk right in!
Make sure you have a strong flashlight or headlamp so you can view the interesting dripstone formations on the ceiling of the cavern. The inner chamber is damp and cool with temperatures lower than those outside, just like most caves in Vermont.
You'll also want to wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots because the cave floor has many loose rocks. The chamber itself is fairly large, reaching back into the mountain approximately 30 feet.
Experience Everett Cave in Vermont for yourself on the mountainside. You can expect bugs and other cavey things, but the rock formations are captivating and it's well worth the trip.
