Burke Mountain in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom is stunning to admire from afar, but there is also many things to do ON the mountain, too. In summertime you'll find singletrack biking, Burke Bike Park, hang gliding, paragliding, golfing, swimming, climbing, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. If it's hiking you're looking for, this is the adventure hike in VT for you! Let's take a look at a few of the sights you'll find along the way.
The Burke Mountain Red and Blue Trail is just over 6 miles in a gorgeous forest setting.
Start the trek at the trailhead in the Darling State Forest Trailhead off Sherburne Lodge Road.
The first view you'll see on the hike is a gorgeous vista looking west from the Red Trail above the CCC Road.
You'll pass a couple of lean-tos along the way.
Just behind the first lean-to the blue trail continues up to your left and the red trail continues straight ahead. But don't worry, both trails will get you to the summit!
The sights are extraordinary.
When you get to the summit, congratulate yourself on a hike well done! But that's not all...
Climb up the fire tower for some spectacular views!
Pictured is a view to the south and southwest from a lookout atop Burke Mountain with the White Mountains on the left.
And this is a view north from the fire tower.
This shows the Willoghby Gap with Lake Willoughby framed by Mt. Hor on the left and Mt. Pisgah on the right is at the left. The most distant mountains are in Quebec.
As you're heading down, take a last look at the view of Mt. Pisgah and Hor from the toll road.
You'll simply love the solitude on this wonderful hike at Burke Mountain.
