Natural arches are found all over Beehive State. In fact, there are more than 6,000 natural arches scattered around Utah. Grosvenor Arch is just one of the many natural arches in the state, but it is so large and impressive that it is a favorite for many individuals. Plus, while many natural arches require quite an extensive hike to reach, Grosvenor Arch does not. All you have is a short trail, less than half a mile long, that is standing between you and one jaw-dropping natural feature in Utah.
While more than 2,000 natural arches are found within Arches National Park, Grosvenor Arch is a bit different. Tucked away in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, this is one of the largest natural arches in the area.
To reach the Grosvenor Arch trailhead, turn onto Four Mile Bench Road, off of Cottonwood Canyon Road. The trailhead is at the end of the dirt road.
You may wonder if you are in the right place as you will be surrounded by sagebrush. However, once you see the large cliffs, you’ll immediately be able to spot the impressive arch towering above the ground.
To capture the most impressive and jaw-dropping views of Grosvenor Arch, take the short, flat, and paved trail.
This trail is narrow and simple and takes you near the base of the cliffs and arch. Despite being short and easy, make sure you bring plenty of water and wear sun protection as you’ll be in direct sun for this adventure.
In no time at all, you will reach Grosvenor Arch and see its majestic beauty. However, as you get up close, you will realize that Grosvenor Arch is actually a unique double arch. It stands more than 150 feet above the ground and is approximately 100 feet in diameter.
Grosvenor Arch was named in 1949 after Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor, the National Geographic Society President at the time who later became the first full-time editor of the National Geographic Magazine.
While the trail is simple and the views are enchanting, one of the best parts about this natural arch in Utah is it's typically away from the crowds and a terrific option if you desire peace and quiet while out in nature.
Utah is home to remarkable natural wonders and Grosvenor Arch certainly deserves a spot on that list. As a double arch, standing 150 feet in the air, this is one destination that is beautiful in every way.
