Here in Utah, it is hard for us to narrow down our favorite scenic hikes. Dozens of gorgeous trails in the Beehive State feature red rocks, thick forests, and beautiful overlooks. However, one lesser-known scenic trail that deserves to be on every bucket list is found near Centerville. The Deuel Creek Trail is not only beautiful, but it also features nearly a dozen bridges and two waterfalls. This is one hiking trail that is hard to forget and it may just be one of the best hikes in Utah.
The lesser-known Deuel Creek Trail takes you up Centerville Canyon to the Deuel Creek Waterfall. There are actually two trails that take you to the stunning falls. Both trails are quite similar, however, the south trail is believed to be a little less steep.
While the trailhead to the south trailhead is just east of the city, be aware that portions of the road to reach the trailhead are rough and a high-clearance vehicle is highly recommended. You will find the trailhead at a kiosk and a parking area off of Fire Break Road.
The South Deuel Creek Trail is approximately 5 miles round trip. This out-and-back trail has a few challenging areas but overall, it is kid friendly and a terrific way to spend an afternoon.
You will climb approximately 1,300 feet in elevation. Fortunately, the inclines are gradual, and you can easily take breaks as needed.
Not too far in, you’ll come to your first waterfall. This is a great place to take a break and just enjoy being out in nature. If you don’t want to continue the full hike, this is also a terrific place to turn around.
As you continue your hike, you’ll follow Deuel Creek. Enjoy the journey because you’ll come to several bridges of all sizes and made from a variety of materials.
You’ll also enjoy lots of shade, making this hiking trail a delight, even during the summer months.
When you come to clearings in the trail, stop and enjoy the views — they are quite magical.
At the end of the trail, you’ll come to the Deuel Creek Waterfall. This waterfall is much larger than the first and is beautiful in every way.
This trail is beautiful in the spring when the waterfalls are flowing at their best. However, be aware that the trail can be quite muddy during the early spring months.
