This Historic Park Is One Of Utah’s Best Kept Secrets

Whether you're working in downtown Salt Lake City and looking for a quiet spot to enjoy your lunch break, or you're attending a concert on a summer night, this tiny park is a pretty little place that you might not know about. Have you seen Brigham Young Historic Park?

You might not even notice this little park tucked away on the corner of North Temple and State Street in downtown Salt Lake City, but it's a pretty little spot that's perfect for a quick stroll or a few quiet moments.

The park is part of what was once the estate of Brigham Young, the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who brought the Mormon pioneers here in 1847.

The large estate included the Lion House and Beehive House, along with other structures such as a barns, corrals, and carpenter house.

The water wheel in the park is powered by the flow of City Creek, and it adds to the pleasant atmosphere here.

The sculptures throughout this little oasis reflect the kinds of activities that once took place here, such as playing and gardening. There's even a real garden with irrigation running through it.

You'll find several plaques around the park that tell you about the history of the estate and the life of Brigham Young who lived from 1801 to 1877.

You won't find any playground equipment at this park - it's simply a small, green space that's meant for people to enjoy. While it's owned by the LDS Church, it's open to the public.

During the summer months, a free concert series is held in this little park. Watch for a schedule to see some talented musicians and singers.
