This Remote Waterfall In Utah Is A Must-Visit This Summer

If you have followed OnlyInYourState for some time, you know that we love chasing waterfalls. While there are several waterfalls I always recommend visiting like Calf Creek Falls and Donut Falls, there is another worth checking out each and every summer — Ferguson Canyon Falls. To reach these falls, you will take the Ferguson Canyon Viewpoint Trail in the Twin Peaks Wilderness. This is the best waterfall hike in Utah as it has everything you need — adequate distance, gorgeous views, stream crossings, and beautiful waterfalls.

The Ferguson Canyon Viewpoint Trail takes you through the Twin Peaks Wilderness. This remote area is a beautiful escape from the daily stressors of life.

You will find the trailhead south of Big Cottonwood Canyon, just off Wasatch Boulevard in Cottonwood Heights. There is a parking lot at the trailhead but you’ll want to arrive early during the summer months as parking is limited.

This trail is just over three miles. However, this isn’t an easy three-mile journey. Rather, this trail is quite steep so take your time and take breaks as needed. This is one trail where you need to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

As you hike, you’ll walk through areas that are thick with vegetation and greenery.

There are also canyon views that are magical.

You’ll also follow a stream that adds even more magic to this already lovely trail. There are even several stream crossings you will need to make so it’s wise to come prepared with extra socks or shoes as you may get wet.

But our favorite part of this trail is the waterfalls. While not massive, the falls are surrounded by greenery and cascade down rock walls. The entire area is simply beautiful.

Seriously, this is one area of the trail where you will want to just sit and enjoy the views.

You can always turn around at the waterfall or continue on toward the overlook. Be aware that to reach the overlook, the trail becomes even more steep and challenging. If you tackle this trail during a hot summer day, the trail becomes very hot and dry so make sure you have plenty of water and sun protection with you.

With views, greenery, and waterfalls, the Ferguson Canyon Viewpoint Trail may be the perfect addition to your summer bucket list. Just make sure you are prepared for the journey – it will be a challenge.
