This Easy, Quarter-Mile Trail Leads To Hidden Falls, One Of Utah’s Most Underrated Waterfalls

One of the best parts about living in Utah is the chance to explore the great outdoors. And, if you're anything like us, you've likely researched "waterfalls near me" more than a few times. Big Cottonwood Canyon is a nature-lover's playground, just minutes from Salt Lake City. The canyon has tons of places to explore, including this little waterfall hiding just off the canyon road. Check out Hidden Falls.

You'll find Hidden Falls about 4.4 miles up the canyon. It's literally hiding just beyond the road!

As you enter the "S" turn, slow down so you won't miss the little parking lot to your right.

To reach the trail, you'll need to cross the road. Make sure to do so carefully! Cars coming down the canyon can be moving pretty fast, and those coming up on your left-hand side are emerging from the "S" curve.

Proceed straight ahead for the very short trail to the falls. It's a dirt and gravel path that's easy for most hikers to navigate. This is a particularly fun hike for kids because it's so short. The waterfall is just moments away.

Follow along the creek toward the falls. This shady spot is nice and cool on a hot, summer day.

Along the way, you'll pass by an abandoned mine. You can poke your head in to see a few feet in, but don't attempt to enter.

Hidden Falls is at the end of the trail. The small waterfall slices right through the rock, splashing into the creek below. It's a pretty little spot that's literally just a few minutes from the road, but if you happen to find yourself alone at the falls, it feels like a hidden little cove.

Depending on the time of year, the falls can be just a trickle or a pretty impressive burst of water. If you arrive early in the morning, especially on a weekday, you might enjoy a quiet, peaceful visit. On a summer weekend afternoon, expect to share this short hike and waterfall with many others.

Remember to leave Hidden Falls as pristine as you found it! Carry out any trash you bring in with you, and remember that since this canyon is a watershed area, dogs aren't allowed.

The next time you're researching "waterfalls near me," we hope this lovely waterfall comes to mind. Have you found Hidden Falls yet? We'd love to see your photos in the comments!
