Enjoy A Long Hike At This Underrated State Park In Utah

Kodachrome Basin State Park is a Utah state park that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. In fact, it has even been named as the most underrated state park in the Beehive State. Located in southern Utah, near the small town of Cannonvile, this park features remarkable rock formations, gorgeous desert landscapes, and outdoor recreational opportunities galore. While there are a handful of trails just waiting for you to explore at this park, if you are looking for a long walk with a little bit of a challenge, check out the Panorama Trail Long Loop.

There are several hiking trails in Kodachrome Basin State Park that I would recommend but the Panorama Trail would be near the top of that list.

There are actually two options on the Panorama Trail. You can take a shorter, easier journey that is only 2.9 miles. But today, we are going to take the long loop trail, which is just shy of six miles.

The Panorama Trail Long Loop is well-marked and takes you past remarkable rock formations …

… and to panoramic views that will inspire you in every way.

You will even come across informational signs that will tell you all about your journey.

But a favorite portion of the Panorama Trail is the countless handprints that cover rock walls. This area is known as Indian Cave and I suggest you stop and admire it for some time.

Cool Cave is also worth exploring and will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a whole new world.

As you hike, make sure you have proper gear such as good shoes, plenty of water, and sun protection. The trail is sandy and there is very little shade.

If you are looking for an easier journey, I’d recommend hiking clockwise. You’ll be able to avoid some steep slickrock declines by going in this direction.

But no matter how far you go, get ready for an incredible outdoor adventure. The Panorama Trail Long Loop at Kodachrome Basin State Park is a Utah hike you don’t want to miss.
