Utah's alpine lakes are crystal-clear and beautiful. You'll find dozens of gorgeous little lakes nestled high in the mountains along the Wasatch front, and Cecret Lake is just one of many. It's also one of the prettiest, and clearest lakes in the Beehive State.
Cecret Lake is a small alpine lake, tucked high above Alta Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
Its water is cold and clear. The lakes in this canyon are part of Utah's watershed, created from the melting snow that accumulates all winter long.
To reach Cecret Lake, take the short trail from the Albion Basin Campground. The journey to the lake is less than one mile long.
The trail is suitable for hikers of most skill levels. With an elevation gain of just 300 feet, it's not too strenuous, but you will want to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring along some water.
By July, wildflowers cover the hills and meadows along this trail.
Moose are common in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and you might see one (or more!) along the trail or around the lake.
The lake is tucked into a small basin, surrounded by mountains and rock. It's a beautiful place where you can get some fresh air and take some jaw-dropping photos.
Cecret Lake is certainly no secret - it's a popular spot for Utahns to visit, especially on weekends. If you're looking for solitude here, your best bet is an early morning, weekday visit.
During busy weekends, parking at the trailhead is limited. Consider taking the free shuttle from Alta Resort.
