The Best Hiking Trail Near Brighton Resort in Utah
The Lake Mary Trail will take you on an adventure through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. You’ll find the trailhead at Brighton Resort.
What To Expect On This Brighton, Utah Hike
This is a 2.3-mile out-and-back trail. It is considered moderate in difficulty as you will climb approximately 800 feet on your journey. Because portions of this trail pass Brighton Resort, you may encounter closures on this trail during the winter months.
It's a fairly popular trail, so it's likely you'll encounter others along the way. If you want to beat the crowds, tackle this hike early in the morning or during the weekdays. Weekends will always bring out more hikers than weekdays.
What To Know Before You Go
The trail has about 780 feet of elevation gain, but overall it's fairly easy (by Utah hiking standards). Most people knock it out in under two hours, but why rush? Stop along the way and take in the views! Remember, it's all about the journey, not the destination.
That being said, the destination is pretty rad. Nothing will prepare you for the views you will receive when you arrive at Lake Mary.
The mountains and trees create a gorgeous scene that will make you fall in love with Utah and its natural beauty.
I recommend you spend some time sitting by the lake and soaking in the surrounding scenery. Keep in mind that this is a protected watershed, so swimming and dogs are not allowed.
If you enjoy a beautiful day in nature as I do, you’ll fall in love with the Lake Mary Trail. There’s a reason it is considered one of the best hikes in Utah — it checks off all the boxes for the best outdoor adventure.
What To Know Before You Go
The first half mile of the trail is mostly uphill, kind of right underneath the ski lift. There isn't much shade on the trail, so plan accordingly. The beginning of the trail is the hardest part, so if you can power through that first half mile, you'll be rewarded with an easier trek to the lake.
If you're visiting in the summer months, you're in for a wildflower explosion! July and August are the best months to hike this trail to see wildflowers. They really illuminate the trail!
Overall, the trail is well-marked and well-maintained. It's a kid-friendly trail, too, so feel free to bring the next generation of nature lovers along for the adventure.
