The U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, DC is a bit out of the way for most DC locals. It’s not easily accessible via metro and isn’t surrounded by must-see landmarks.
And that’s just what makes it the perfect place to see the spring cherry blossom bloom.
The arboretum is packed with gorgeous cherry trees spread over 400 acres of landscaped natural space.
The park itself has over 1,000 trees to admire and features over 30 different species, meaning the blooming season lasts for much longer than in other areas of the city that offer just a single variety of trees.
There are trails and paved areas where you can walk amongst the flowers...
...and it even has a stunning spot decorated with 19th-century Corinthian columns moved from the U.S. Capitol dome.
But the cherry trees are the highlight of the garden, so of course, you’ll want to have your camera ready to take some pics of the pretty pink blooms.
This place is an absolute gem and one of the best spots to enjoy cherry blossom season without the crowds.
