Austin has exploded in population over the past few decades, so it's more important than ever to find opportunities to slow down and relax. And what better place to do that than the Zilker Botanical Garden? Thus lush, 28-acre oasis sits in the heart of downtown Austin, and it's the perfect place to clear your head and appreciate the simple pleasures in life.
Often referred to as "A Jewel in the Heart of Austin," Zilker Botanical Garden is a lush oasis nestled within Zilker Metropolitan Park.
You'll find the gardens on Barton Springs Road, centrally located near the famous Zilker Metropolitan Park.
The 28-acre destination features nearly a dozen themed gardens interconnected by a series of pathways.
The walkways are shady, peaceful, and picturesque.
The Hartman Prehistoric Garden is one of those places that makes me feel like a kid again.
When I worked as a camp counselor back in the day, I loved seeing the young ones run around and explore this area. The Hartman Prehistoric Garden is home to plants that are believed to have been around during the days of dinosaurs. Along the walkways, you'll see casts of real dinosaur footprints that were discovered around Zilker park.
Arguably the crowd favorite, the Japanese Tea Garden embodies peace and serenity.
It's ideal for when you need to clear your head, the soft trickle of running water offering a fresh perspective on any nagging thoughts. You'll even see tons of adorable koi fish swimming to and fro in their very own pond!
Every summer, the Zilker Botanical Garden turns into a Woodland Faerie Trail.
You'll get to see where all the fairies of Austin have been hiding - aren't their houses just the cutest things you've ever seen?
And there are all kinds of events happening throughout the year.
I went to a plant market at the Zilker Botanical Garden recently. Dozens of local vendors set up shop and sold gorgeous goods. I came home with an armload of plants and some delicious kettle popcorn.
Don't miss out on all the fun family photo-ops!
Memories you'll cherish for decades to come are waiting at every turn.
