Most people know about the plight of domesticated animals - dogs, cats, and rabbits, for example - who suffer from neglect and abuse. However, the struggle of farm animals, and the abuse and the neglect they suffer, doesn't get quite as much attention. When you visit this farm sanctuary in Texas, you'll get to meet some of those lovably adorable animals who survived unspeakable cruelty.
Austin Farm Sanctuary, founded by Angela and Chris Fuller-Wigg in 2016, provides rescued farm animals with the love, respect, and safety necessary to heal and a sanctuary where they can happily live their lives.
Each of the animals who calls Austin Farm Sanctuary home has his own story and personality - from the adorable Miss Piggy to Betsy Ross, the goat.
You have several ways you can get to know the farm's animals and to help out, too. Private tours of the farm can be set up, or you can request a virtual tour.
Be sure to regularly check Austin Farm Sanctuary on Facebook for scheduled public tours and other events.
If you've got free time, you can also volunteer at the sanctuary. All prospective volunteers must go through training on their first day.
On your first day volunteering, you'll learn more about the sanctuary's residents and their needs, how to make sure both you and the animals remain safe, and the volunteer opportunities available to you.
You can also donate to the sanctuary, which helps with the continued care of the residents. Donations also allow the organization to rescue more animals.
