The One Hiking Trail In Texas That Leads To Swimming Holes And Waterfalls Galore

Spicewood Springs Trail in Colorado Bend State Park offers a 3.8-mile hike with multiple waterfall-fed swimming holes.

If you love hiking trails with swimming holes in Texas, Spicewood Springs Trail is calling your name. Located in Colorado Bend State Park, this 3.8-mile waterfall hike in Texas leads to not one, but several waterfall-fed swimming holes. It's the perfect activity to enjoy on a warm day!

One of the most popular trails at Colorado Bend State Park, Spicewood Springs Trail is pure heaven on a warm day.

The trail is a 3.8-mile loop, its first leg running parallel to the mighty Colorado River, which runs from west and central Texas all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico.

What begins as a wide open waterfront path flanked by towering canyon walls quickly curves into dense undergrowth. The majority of the trail is shaded, so you'll be shielded (at least partially) from the oppressive Texas heat in the summer.

Ascending nearly 300 feet, the moderately challenging hike boasts scenic overlooks that showcase both the river and the surrounding forest landscape.

These overlooks serve a twofold purpose: not only do they offer breathtaking views, but hikers can also use them to scope out the best swimming spots.

Crossing over Spicewood Creek in several places, the trail features a myriad of waterfall-fed swimming holes where you can take a refreshing dip.

The most popular among them is Spicewood Springs - the trail's namesake - but it's not the only one! Small natural pools abound all along the way, many of which are so secluded, you'll practically have them all to yourself.

Spend some time splashing around and soaking up some rays (and the scenery) before heading back the way you came. What a fun way to cool off!

While the swimming holes are undeniably the main attraction, there are other noteworthy sites on the trail - including lots of cool caves! Do a little exploring and see what you can find.
