If you love exploring state parks in Texas, get excited! There is another one in the pipeline, and it's slated to open in mid to late 2023. Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will be located about an hour west of the DFW metroplex, featuring a 90-acre lake, numerous trails, campsites, and astonishing views.
For the first time since 2001, a new state park in slated to open in North Texas this year. Located about 75 miles west of Dallas-Fort Worth, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park will encompass nearly 5,000 acres of vast and rugged former ranchland.
In the works for the past decade, the park will feature an extensive, multiuse trail network that will showcase the 1,400-foot-high peaks that many people are unaware even exist in the area.
The 90-acre Tucker Lake is the centerpiece of the park, on which visitors can fish, boat, swim, and birdwatch.
Please note that motorboats will not be allowed on the lake.
While an opening date for the park is yet to be decided, the second half of 2023 looks to be the most likely timeframe. Even more exciting, two additional Texas state parks are in the pipeline: Powderhorn Ranch on the Gulf Coast, and Chinati Mountains State Natura Area out west.
We are anxiously awaiting the grand opening of this breathtaking destination that will allow more of our great state to be preserved for years and decades to come. A bonus is that the park will boast gorgeous views in every season!
