Hike Less Than 1.5 Miles To This Spectacular Waterfall In Texas

Texas has no shortage of waterfall hikes, but we're always up for a new adventure. If you agree with that sentiment, Inks Lake State Park Loop definitely belongs on your bucket list. Less than 1.5 miles round-trip, it's an easy hike - but don't let that fool you. The trail leads through a rugged, rocky landscape to a breathtaking waterfall, and you'll be in awe at first sight.

Just an hour northwest of Austin, Inks Lake State Park is a true Hill Country gem.

Nestled on the Colorado River, the park features striking rock formations, nine miles of hiking trails, and crystal-clear water ideal for swimming, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, and fishing.

Among the park's most popular trails is Inks Lake State Park Loop, a 1.2-mile hike that parallels the beautiful Spring Creek.

With an elevation gain of less than 100 feet, it's an adventure suitable for almost all skill levels.

The trail remains flat for its entire duration (besides a tiny bit of rock scrambling in the beginning, which we hear kids can't get enough of).

Along the way, you'll see native wildlife and vegetation, as well as breathtaking views of the creek and Inks Lake itself.

Several wooden footbridges lead into densely forested terrain, reminiscent of a scene from a children's storybook.

As you meander through the lush, wooded landscape, you'll half expect to see pixies flitting about and leaving fairy dust in their wake.

Ancient, otherworldly rocks are everywhere you look, adding an element of mysticism to the hike.

When the trail is at its closest point to the creek, you'll start to hear the unmistakable sound of rushing water that can only mean one thing.

Rounding a corner, this magnificent waterfall will come into full view.

It flows most powerfully during the rainy season, so be sure and time your visit appropriately.
