We’re always in search of new opportunities to escape from the unrelenting Texas summer heat, and Pace Bend Park in Spicewood is definitely one such park in Texas. This secluded, cliffside oasis is less than one hour away from Austin, but it sure feels like a faraway paradise. Tucked along Lake Travis, you’ll witness some of the bluest water in Texas. Pace Bend is one of our best kept secrets, and we recommend that you explore it for yourself.
With nine miles of shoreline along the pristine Lake Travis, Pace Bend Park is among the most popular summer hangout spots in the Highland Lakes area — and for good reason. This cliffside oasis features a wide range of recreational opportunities, including swimming, boating, fishing, and camping.
Despite being hundreds of miles from the Gulf Coast, the park boasts a sandy beach that looks just like the real thing. Bring some lawn chairs, umbrellas, and a good book in preparation for a day full of soaking up the sun.
On the west side of the park, towering limestone bluffs and rocky coves stretch high up towards the clouds. Cliff diving is a popular activity here, but we'd strongly advise against it as rocks could be hiding underwater.
Numerous multi-use trails lead into the hills, providing unparalleled views of the lake and gorgeous waterfront homes on the other side. You just might catch a glimpse of whitetail deer, raccoons, foxes, ringtail cats, and dozens of bird species, as the area is a wildlife preserve.
Nothing quite compares to sticking your toes in the sand underneath a cloudless summer sky, a gentle breeze rustling through your hair. If you have a boat, two main ramps on either side of the park make launching a breeze.
Just look at how deep blue this water is! It's hard to believe the hustle and bustle of Austin is less than an hour away.
More than 400 campsites, both primitive and improved, allow guests to extend their visit overnight. You can even pitch a tent right on the beach! Hill Country sunsets seldom disappoint, and Pace Bend Park offers a front-row seat.
