The Best Kayaking Lake In Texas Is One You May Never Have Heard Of
Tyler State Park in Texas offers a serene getaway with a clear spring-fed lake ideal for various water activities and camping.
Each time we discover a new hidden gem in Texas, we swear up and down it'll be the last one - and then, like magic, another comes out of the woodwork. Tyler State Park, nestled deep in the Piney Woods of the northeastern part of the state, is one such destination, with the most gorgeous spring-fed lake you've ever seen. The water is clear as glass and silky smooth, making it ideal for kayaking.
You never quite know where you'll end up when you set off on an East Texas backroad, but if it happens to be Tyler State Park, you're in for a real treat.
Nestled deep in the Piney Woods landscape, this hidden gem offers endless outdoor activities for nature lovers of all ages.
The centerpiece of the park is a 64-acre, spring-fed lake surrounded by 100-foot-tall evergreen trees.
Clear as glass, the lake waters are ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming, so get ready for a jam-packed day of fun in the sun.
All sorts of watercraft are allowed on the lake, from boats (motorized and non, with a speed limit of five miles per hour) to canoes and kayaks to stand-up paddleboards.
You can rent any of the above from the park store, so all you really need to bring is yourself and a sense of adventure!
Unlike some of the more popular state parks in Texas, this little-known oasis is rarely ever crowded, so you'll get to enjoy a peaceful getaway with few distractions.
Just look at how much of the lake is empty - what a beautiful sight!
Anglers will have a blast fishing for crappie, perch, catfish, and bass from three separate piers.
If you forget any of your gear, don't sweat it - the park loans fishing rods, reels, and tackle boxes.
The park also boasts 13 miles of nature trails, one of which was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps over 70 years ago.
Hikes range in length from .4 to 3.1 miles, so you can rest assured there's something to suit every skill level.
If you'd like to keep the fun going for an extra day or two, several different camping options are available.
There are over 100 tent and RV campsites, some with lakefront views and others nestled among the towering pines. Nightly rates range from $18 to $30 depending on the offered amenities, which range from either water or electricity to full hookup capabilities. Cabins and screened shelters can be rented, as well, and you can learn more about the rates and amenities here.
Visit the park's website or Facebook page to learn more.
