While hiking in Tennessee, it's easy to get caught up in the grand view and the epic waterfalls. Don’t get me wrong: I love those things, and you will find me seeking out those places just like everyone else. But, there are so many hidden wonderful things that you can easily miss if you don’t know where to look. By slowing down we can enjoy the small things like wildflowers, bugs with interesting colors, or fascinating rock formations. There is a whole world waiting for us, and it is filled with gorgeous potential if you just create a conscious determination to appreciate the little things. The Standing Stone Lake Trail does offer a great lake view, but it is also a wonderful place to see wildflowers in Tennessee.
Standing Stone State Park is located in the northern part of middle Tennessee and is home to some lovely trails and recreation options, just like all of our state parks here in the Volunteer State.
The Standing Stone Lake Trail allows a pleasant stroll around Standing Stone Lake. You will certainly get great views of the water from several different angles throughout your hike and each section feels fresh and new.
You will have a couple of stream crossings, bridges (including a swinging bridge), as well as the lake, to see all along your journey.
Where some hikes will be a destination hike, the key to this trail is the journey along the way. So immerse yourself in nature and enjoy every step of this nearly five-mile trip.
This trail is filled with points of interest; sit awhile and enjoy the sound of rushing water from the dam, or explore an old boathouse.
Whether you are with kids or a kid at heart there is plenty to see and do the whole time you are adventuring along the path. Keep an eye out for wildlife because many people see sunning turtles, playful otters, and deer grazing near the water's edge. While searching for wildlife, make sure you have a good set of binoculars so you don’t miss these beautiful creatures.
The Standing Stone Lake Trail is also well known for its beautiful wildflowers. Splashes of color can be found right along the trail. Like swirls of white, red, purple, blue, and red, these little additions to the trail add an interesting dynamic to all of the green leaves.
As I stated before, I love finding these little treasures because they are so delightfully unexpected. You might be on a trail excited to see a grand view, but these flowers can be an exciting and welcoming addition to your hike.
Make sure you slow down and really appreciate the colorful wildflowers. Take a couple of pictures, smell the different flowers, and allow these gorgeous creations to fill you with joy. So get on out there and start a treasure hunt for wildflowers.
Hands down the Standing Stone Lake Trail is an excellent place to see wildflowers. Certainly, enjoy the views of the lake, the old boathouse, and the sunbathing turtles, but don’t forget the unexpected surprise found by these wildflowers. A welcoming splash of colors is just what you need so make sure you head on out Standing Stone State Park for this lovely trail.
If you love lakes then make your way north and enjoy one of the cleanest lakes in Tennessee, Dale Hollow Lake.
