We know Tennessee as one of the most beautiful states in the nation (although we may be biased), but sometimes the hustle and bustle of daily life gets to be a bit much. Whether you make your home in Memphis or Johnson City, live in the hills of Chattanooga or the plains of Jackson, it's nice to get out and get away every once in awhile. These seven spots provide a perfect reprieve from what ails you and gives you a whole lot of priceless memories on the side.
1. Reelfoot Lake
Reelfoot Lake was carved out of the earth by the New Madrid earthquakes in the early 19th century, and has since become a staple for west Tennessee dwellers. Their broad, wildflower studded fields are gorgeous, but Reelfoot Lake gives us spades of good feelings inside.
2. Great Smoky Mountains National Park
This comes as a shock to no one, hey? The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the United States, and it's a beautiful nod to the natural beauty of both Tennessee and North Carolina. Go camping or find a cabin, take a day hike or make your way to the river. It's hard to do a day wrong in the mountains!
3. Cades Cove
Speaking of the Great Smoky Mountains...Cades Cove is one of the most unbelievable natural Tennessee vistas we know. Cut deep out of the mountains, the serene valley is hugged by mountains and dotted with wildlife.
4. Columbia
The sleepy town of Columbia, Tennessee is located roughly an hour out of Nashville and is one of the most simple and sweet places you can visit in the state. Grab a coffee at Muletown while you wander the antique and thrift shops, then loop your way around the town square before the heat of the afternoon.
5. Radnor Lake
Radnor Lake is located just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, and its two mile lake loop is an easy hike for all ages. Quiet, low-key and well off the beaten path, we'd recommend walking the trail early. This hidden gem is getting much more well-known!
6. Pulaski
Pulaski has managed to retain its small town charm with antique shops and historic buildings dotting its downtown. We'd recommend pitching up for a good meal and a ring about town, before driving out into the countryside to ogle at the gorgeous homes and mansions tucked between the hills.
7. Marcy Jo's Mealhouse and Bakery
Marcy Jo's makes our favorite meal in Middle Tennessee. Locally owned and operated, this sweet small town eatery keeps its integrity while serving up sweet rolls the size of your head and deep bowls of biscuits and gravy. (4205 Highway 431, Columbia, TN)
Once you're done visiting these stunning spots, you may want to check out Tennessee's first ever state park. It's beautiful!
